Bio

Alfred Lara will be starting his 8th season as men's and women's head XC and distance track coach at Central Wyoming College. He was born and raised in Fresno, California.  He lived there for 50 years and has now lived in Wyoming for the last 12 years pursuing his life passion as a coach.

He attended Fresno City College after high school where he was named most outstanding runner and team captain for 2 years and inducted to Fresno City College Hall of Fame. Soon after, he attended Fresno State University where he ran cross country and track. In cross country, he was also voted team captain and most outstanding runner.

Alfred says his greatest accomplishments include being runner of the year champion for six consecutive years in Central California. He was also awarded Hispanic Athlete of the year in 1992 for California. Alfred was later invited to Mexico City and received a medal from the Mexico City sports federation president. In 1994, Alfred finished 19th place at Bay to Breakers, the largest foot race in the world (86,000 runners that year). He has run 18 marathons with a unforgettable victory in the Santa Monica Marathon. Coach Lara says his most memorable victory was when he had the opportunity to compete with the 3-time New York City Marathon and 1-time Boston Marathon champion, Alberto Salazar.

Today, Coach Lara says his greatest goal is to help his runners at Central Wyoming College win a regional championship in cross country. You will always find Alfred running alongside his runners and pushing them to be their best.
