CWC Volleyball Faces Tough Challenges in First Region 9 Matchups of the Season
In a series of tense matches, the Central Wyoming College Rustlers Women's Volleyball team contended with both Gillette Community College and Casper College on Friday and Saturday this past week, respectively. The Rustlers experienced a mixed set of results, securing a comeback victory against Gillette College while facing a narrow defeat against Casper College.
The first match took place in Gillette, WY, where the Rustlers faced Gillette. After dropping the first two sets 21-25 each, the Rustlers mounted a remarkable comeback, winning the third and fourth sets 25-18 and 25-20, respectively. They clinched the match with a decisive 15-8 win in the final fifth set. Key players like Presley Ryan, who achieved a total of 15 kills, and Nora Rasmussen, contributed significantly to the win.
In their next confrontation at Casper College, the Rustlers put up a staunch defense but were edged out in a tight match. Despite winning the first set 25-17, they lost the second by a slim margin at 25-27. The third and fourth sets were split, with the Rustlers winning the fourth 25-17, but a tough fifth set saw them narrowly defeated 14-16. Notable performances included 14 kills each from Presley Ryan and Rachel Workman, and exceptional defensive efforts from Hallie Johnson with 38 digs.
Quincey Mathews excelled as the Rustlers' primary setter, distributing 33 assists against Gillette and 44 against Casper. Additional standout contributions came from Lindsey Stewart, with a combined total of 14 blocks over the two games, providing a strong defensive front for the team.
Looking ahead, the Rustlers are set to host Eastern Wyoming College on October 3, 2025, at Central Wyoming College. The team remains focused and is anticipated to use their past experiences to refine their strategies and performance in upcoming encounters.
