CWC Women's Basketball Sets School Record En Route to Massive Road Win
The Central Wyoming College Rustlers women's basketball team delivered an offensive masterclass on Wednesday night, riding a massive second-quarter performance to a 78-65 road victory over Northwest College.
Offensive Fireworks Lead the Way
After a tight first quarter that saw Northwest hold a slim one-point lead, the Rustlers exploded in the second frame, outscoring the Trappers 31-14. This pivotal run was fueled by lights-out shooting, as CWC shot a staggering 68.8% from the floor and 64.3% from beyond the arc during the second period.
For the game, the Rustlers maintained an impressive 52.7% field goal percentage and connected on a school-record 17 three-pointers, finishing with a 44.7% clip from long distance.
Standout Individual Performances
Four Rustlers reached double figures in the scoring column, led by a dominant double-double from Laura Ring.
-
Laura Ring: Paced the team with 23 points and 13 rebounds, while also contributing 3 assists.
-
Lexie Kesler: Put on a shooting clinic, scoring 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including six 3-pointers.
-
Aliyah Newton: Provided a steady hand with 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.
-
Claudia Galea: Provided efficient scoring off the bench, perfect on the night with 6 points on two 3-pointers.
Defensive Resilience
Despite Northwest outscoring CWC in the final frame, the Rustlers' defense remained formidable throughout the contest. CWC dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Trappers 39-31, and limited Northwest to just 31.1% shooting for the game.
The Rustlers will look to carry this momentum forward as they closeout their Region 9 regular season schedule on the road February 25 against Laramie County Community College and at home against Western Wyoming on February 28.
