Rustlers Face Tough Opponents on Arizona Trip
On a sunny day at Arizona Eastern Community College, the Central Wyoming College Men's Soccer team played a notably competitive match against the Eastern Arizona Monsters, ending in a 1-1 draw on August 30, 2025.
The first half saw both teams unable to break the deadlock, leaving the score at 0-0 at halftime. Both teams exhibited strong defensive skills, preventing any successful attempts on goal.
The second half brought more intensity as Eastern Arizona took the lead. The Rustlers, undeterred, ramped up their efforts and managed to equalize later in the match, thanks to a crucial goal by Josh Bromwell, with an assist by Leonidas Papanikalou. Stanley Schuman, the goalkeeper for Central Wyoming, played a crucial role in keeping the game within reach, fending off numerous attempts by the Monsters.
Head Coach Marcus Horwood commented on the game, "Dominated the game with many clear-cut chances, we need to do better at finding the finishing touch to put us in comfortable positions in games, but I'm proud of the men for coming back from 1-0 late in the game."
Two days later, the Central Wyoming College Rustlers took on the Mohave College Bighorns on September 1, 2025, in a challenging non-conference soccer game in Bullhead City, AZ.
The match opened under extreme weather conditions, facing the Rustlers with an additional challenge beyond their formidable opponents. Despite an aggressive start, the Rustlers found themselves trailing with a significant halftime score of 4-1 in favor of Mohave. Davide Daveri managed to break through Mohave's defense to score the sole goal for Central Wyoming in the first half, with an assist provided by Louis Louizou.
In the second half, the Rustlers struggled to contain the Bighorns, allowing two more goals, bringing the final tally to 6-1. Goalkeeper Justin Vaurs faced an intense matchup, contending with Mohave's robust offensive plays. The game concluded with a notable disparity, marking a tough day on the field for the Rustlers.
Reflecting on the match, the Rustlers' coach emphasized the need to redirect focus towards the upcoming game against Northwest on September 6, 2025, in Powell, WY. With this defeat behind them, the Rustlers aim to regroup and seek redemption in their next encounter.
