Rustler Men's Soccer Team Secures Victory in Season Opener Against College of Southern Idaho

Salt Lake City, UT— The Central Wyoming College Men's Soccer team kicked off their season with a strong performance against College Southern Idaho on August 23, 2025, at Westminster University. The match concluded with a 3-1 victory for the Rustlers under challenging weather conditions described as extremely hot and sunny.

Despite the heat, the Rustlers took control early in the match, achieving a halftime lead of 2-0. The team's offensive strategy paid off with Quinten Riballet and Leonidas Papanikolaou contributing to the scoreboard in the first half. The Rustlers' goalie, Stanley Schumann, played a crucial role in defending the lead.

In the second half, College Southern Idaho managed to score, narrowing the gap to 2-1 and momentarily putting pressure on the Rustlers. However, the team showed resilience, with a pivotal moment coming from Leonidas, who won a penalty which was then cleverly scored by Charles Jones. The Rustlers eventually sealed their victory with a third goal, showcasing both their tactical acumen and mental fortitude.

Coach Marcus Horwood expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, especially praising their ability to control the game post-adversity and their mental strength to secure the win. The Rustlers are set to face Utah State Eastern in their next game on August 27, 2025, in Riverton, WY.
