Rustlers Surge Past Northwest College in High-Scoring Home Victory

RIVERTON, WY – The Central Wyoming College Rustlers men's basketball team notched a significant conference win this past Saturday, January 31, defeating the Northwest College Trappers 79-69 at Rustler Gym. The Rustlers displayed balanced scoring and efficient shooting to improve their season standing in a critical Region IX-North matchup.

Smith and Gulley Lead the Charge

Central Wyoming took control early and maintained their offensive rhythm throughout the contest. The Rustlers were led by a dominant performance from Daniel Smith, who recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds while shooting a stellar 10-of-12 from the floor.

Joining him in double figures was Camrin Gulley, who orchestrated the offense with 14 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. Gulley's ability to find teammates and hit timely shots from beyond the arc kept the Trappers' defense on its heels all afternoon.

Other Key Rustler Contributors:

  • Jordan Peel: Contributed 13 points and 2 assists in 35 minutes of action.

  • Tyler Jette: Provided a boost with 11 points, including three critical 3-pointers.

  • Luke Danielson: Added 11 points and 3 rebounds off the bench to help seal the victory.

Statistical Breakdown

The Rustlers' victory was built on a strong overall performance:

  • Field Goal Percentage: CWC shot efficiently as a team, maintaining pressure on the Trappers throughout both halves.

  • Rebounding: Led by Smith's 10 boards and Isaac Patik's 6, the Rustlers battled on the glass to limit Northwest's second-chance opportunities.

  • Ball Movement: The team recorded 28 assists, showing great unselfishness in their half-court sets.

Defensive Stand

While the offense was clicking, the Rustlers' defense also stepped up, holding Northwest College to 39.3% shooting from the field. They effectively neutralized many of the Trappers' scoring threats, including holding key starters below their season averages.
