Generals pull away from Rustlers in Second half

The Rustler men's basketball team ran into some serious foul trouble in Sheridan last evening, as leading scorers Alihan Demir and Irshaad Hunte exited the game early in Wednesday night's 75-85 loss.  The Rustlers led by as many as six points in the first half before a barrage of three point shots from General Dmonta Harris allowed the Generals to head into halftime up 43-41.

The beginning of the second half would bring a barrage of whistles, 10 turnovers, and some defensive breakdowns for the Rustlers.  The Generals continued their great perimeter shooting night, going 11-22 from downtown on the evening.  Four of five Rustler starters would end the evening in double figures, led by Irshaad Hunte with 17 points and seven rebounds before fouling out.  Before leaving the game in the same manner, Alihan Demir had 15 points and nine rebounds.  Devon Colley had 16 points, while Nick Brannon ended with 12.  The Rustlers only had 13 points off of their bench, with Marcus Nolan contributing five and Colter Galante having eight.

"We played hard enough to win tonight and proved that we belong on the same court as some of the best teams in our league," said head coach Jack Nelson. " However, there are no moral victories.  We have to learn from the one and bounce back quickly because we host a very tough Northwest team on Friday."

The Rustlers look to bounce back against the Northwest College Trappers tomorrow at 7:30pm in Rustler Gymnasium.  The women's tip will tip off beforehand at 5:30pm.
