Central Wyoming Beach Volleyball Battles to the Wire in Denver Showdown

The Central Wyoming College beach volleyball team traveled to Denver on April 17, for a high-stakes regional matchup against Trinidad State College. In a series that came down to the final serves, the Rustlers proved they could go toe-to-toe with the region's best, ultimately falling in a narrow 3-2 decision.

Match Highlights: Rustlers Mount a Comeback

The dual began with Trinidad State taking an early lead, securing victories in the top two flights. At the No. 1 spot, Ella Svensson and Coco Denison battled through a nail-biting second set but were unable to force a third, falling 8-21, 22-24. The No. 2 pair, Laina Whitney and Hallie Johnson, faced a slow start and fought valiantly before dropping their match 14-21, 18-21.

However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the middle of the lineup as CWC launched a fierce comeback:

  • No. 3 Pair: Presley Ryan and Emily Van Ginkel delivered a standout performance. After winning the first set decisively, they showed immense mental toughness to weather a second-set push and close out a three-set victory: 21-12, 19-21, 15-11.

  • No. 4 Pair: Quincey Mathews and Brynlee Birch kept the pressure on, earning a commanding straight-sets win (21-16, 21-16) to pull the Rustlers even in the team score.

The Deciding Set

With the dual tied at 2-2, the outcome rested on the No. 5 flight. Sarah Meservey and Kennedie Noseep fought through one of the most competitive matches of the day. After a tough opening set, they pushed their opponents to the absolute limit in the second, narrowly missing a third-set tiebreaker with a final score of 8-21, 21-22.
