The Central Wyoming College beach volleyball team traveled to Texas this past Friday and Saturday, March 27–28, to compete in a challenging tournament hosted by Texas Wesleyan. While the Rustlers faced a rigorous schedule against high-caliber programs and difficult weather conditions, the weekend served as a pivotal point for team growth and competitive development.

Gritty Performance Against Regional Powerhouses

The Rustlers opened play on Friday, March 27, facing off against Texas Wesleyan and Oklahoma Wesleyan. Both matchups ended in 5-0 defeats, but the scores belied the competitive spirit on the sand.

The duo of Presley Ryan and Nora Rasmussen pushed Oklahoma Wesleyan to the brink in a three-set thriller, ultimately falling 21-15, 15-21, 11-15. Ryan and Rasmussen repeated this gritty performance on Saturday against Texas Wesleyan, battling through another three-set marathon (16-21, 24-22, 15-10).

Saturday Breakthroughs

On Saturday morning, the Rustlers faced Trinidad State, where they broke through into the win column in individual pair play. The duo of Sarah Meservey and Kyndal McFadden secured a hard-fought victory for the Rustlers, while Kennedie Noseep and Emily VanGinkel also earned a win in their exhibition match.

Coach's Perspective: Growth Over Results

Despite the final standings, the tournament highlighted the team's steady improvement. Over the course of the two-day event, communication sharpened and players grew more confident in their execution against elite competition.

"While the final results did not reflect victories in the standings, several matches were closely contested," head coach Kim Davis noted following the event. "These tight matchups underscored the team's potential and ability to compete at a high level".

The experience gained in Dallas is expected to serve as a valuable stepping stone as the Rustlers continue their spring season.
