With a young group of four freshmen and one sophomore, the cross country team traveled to Denver to race at Washington Park. It was an experience for our young runners, as they competed against 160 runners. All participants were from junior colleges and four year institutions.
Parker Jones ran a personal best time with 28:04 for 8k, placing him 90th. This is the 3rd time Parker has run under 29 minutes. Parker is progressing to his goal, and peaking to have a chance at the regional championships as well as Nationals. Brayden Kovick, a first place winner 2 weeks ago in our home meet against MSU-N, was the next CWC finisher with a time of 28:59 -119th place. Other finishers for the men were Lukas Mathews (29:15, 130th), Jared White (29:34, 143rd) and Florenzo Bauer (29:51, 149th).
On the women's side, CWC was led by Paige Flock with a time of 27:09 for 6k. This was the first time the women have competed in a race longer than a 5k. Finishers for the women were Jessilyn Monahan (29:50, 129th), Sienna Schuler (30:18, 130th) and Kirsten Knzovich (35:00, 134th). Melissa Merritt did not finish the race, as she dropped out about the halfway mark with an injury.
The Rustlers will be off for 3 weeks and will be hosting Regionals at the CWC campus on October 27th.
